The Hour Hand

On the face of a clock, there are two definite hands. The 'little hand' is called the Hour Hand. In Figure 1, the hour hand is on the left.

When telling time, you must first start with the hour hand. If the hour hand is in between two numbers, it is the hour of the last number the hand crossed. For example, in Figure 2, the hour is 8.
