The Minute Hand

On the face of a clock, there are two definite hands. The 'big hand' is called the Minute Hand. In Figure 1, the minute hand is on the right.

After determining the hour, you must then find the minute. On the face of a clock there are twelve numbers. Each number represents 5 minutes. For example, the 2 on the clock is 10 minutes, the 3 is 15 minutes, the 4 is 20 minutes and so on.

In Figure 3, the hour is 8, and the minute would be 22, so the correct time is 8:22. When writing time, the hour goes first, then a colon, the minute, a colon, then the second* (hour : minute : second). The red hand shows the number of seconds. These are counted the same way as minutes. If you want to state the exact time in Figure 3, it would be 8:22:05.

*When giving time, the number of seconds is unnecessary.
